Frequently asked questions

Is counseling right for me?

Therapy is your no-BS ticket to cutting through emotional pain and leveling up every part of your life, from your inner world to your relationships. Unlike a chat with friends, this is your private, judgment-free zone to get raw and real, with a professional who's in your corner to help you unlock the life you deserve. Please contact me if you have questions or would like to arrange a free 15-minute phone consultation.

What can I expect?

Finding the right therapist is your first move, and I'm here to make that step a breeze. I offer a free phone or video consultation so you can see if we're the perfect match, and together we'll map out how I can help you crush those challenges. In our early sessions, we'll get into the struggles that brought you here and nail down real, actionable goals, then team up to get you there—even if it feels like the journey gets a bit bumpy before the breakthrough. Embrace fresh ideas and take bold leaps; sometimes, trying something new is exactly what flips the script in your favor.

How long does it take?

The pace of your therapy journey depends on a mix of things—your schedule, my availability, life's wild twists, the specifics of your challenges, and how much you work on in between sessions. Research shows most folks see meaningful change in about 12 to 15 sessions, and I'm betting we'll hit that sweet spot too. Some may level up sooner, while others get hooked on the process and stick around. My mission? To help you accomplish your goals as quickly as possible.

Will I be given a diagnosis?

You’re in control—if you’d rather skip a diagnosis, that’s totally your call; I only offer one if you need it for insurance claims, and we’ll talk it out together for treatment planning and referrals. Remember, when you send info to your insurance, they call the shots on session length and count, not you. And heads up: any private details you share might be stored in the Medical Information Bureau, meaning other parties—like life insurance companies—could get a peek later on.

What is online or distance counseling?

Online therapy—aka Telehealth—let’s you gain real, accessible counseling, connecting with you via phone, video, or email so you can get the help you need without the hassle of an office visit. That said, if you're in the middle of a severe crisis or wrestling with active suicidal thoughts, this format might not cut it; in those cases, you should connect with local resources and a nearby therapist who can offer immediate, hands-on support. And if these challenges ever pop up during our work together, rest assured—I’ve got a rock-solid emergency plan to link you with local help.

Is it really confidential?

What you share in therapy, your records, and even your attendance are confidential. Confidentiality is so important to me and it’s what makes therapy work. You have the right to a safe and confidential therapy experience. However, there are some exceptions:

- When you give written permission to release information,
- When your records are subpoenaed for legal reasons,
- When reporting is required or allowed by law (example: child abuse or neglect, extreme danger to self, elder abuse, danger to others, or viewing or possession of child pornography)
