Mariah J. Zur, LPC
Hi, I’m Mariah
I spent eight years working in prisons, surrounded by power struggles, manipulation, and control. And yet, the most dangerous cycle? The one I was living. Toxic relationships, staying in situations that drained me, repeating the same damn patterns, and somehow wondering why I felt stuck.
I was the common denominator in every area of my life. My career felt stagnant. My relationships? A mess. I ignored red flags and convinced myself that what I had was “enough.” Because deep down, I didn’t believe I deserved more. Then came the wake-up call.
After three months of trauma intensives and individual therapy, my therapist held up the mirror I had spent years avoiding. I finally saw my own patterns. I realized I was chasing the same toxic cycles in my relationships, my job, even in my PhD program. The same power struggles and control I saw every day in the prison system? They were playing out in my own damn life.
That’s when everything changed.
I started dating with intention instead of falling back into old habits. I met my husband. I walked away from a PhD program that was draining my soul. And instead of settling for burnout, I built a life I actually wanted to live, working from home, raising our three dogs (Simba, Chloe, and Curtis) and running my own private practice.
For the first time, I wasn’t just surviving, I was actually f*cking happy.
How I work
No BS, just real healing.
I don’t do surface-level therapy or sugarcoat the hard stuff. If you’re ready to stop replaying the past and start rewriting your future, let’s do the work.
I know how hard it is to break free when you feel like your mind is working against you. When your brain knows they’re toxic, but your heart keeps pulling you back. When you see the red flags, yet somehow, you’re still stuck in the same damn cycle. I get it because I’ve lived it. I spent years in a narcissistic relationship. I worked in a prison system where toxic power dynamics were everywhere. I know how it feels to question everything, to doubt yourself so much that you don’t even trust your own gut anymore.
But I also know what’s on the other side. And I want that for you, too.

Here’s what I believe about therapy:
Not everyone is a narcissist, but if you keep attracting them, let’s talk.
Narcissism isn’t just a buzzword, it’s real, and it’s damaging. But labeling every toxic person as a narcissist won’t break the cycle. Instead of diagnosing your ex, let’s focus on why you keep getting pulled into these dynamics and focus on healing.
Understanding trauma isn’t enough, you have to rewire your response.
You don’t need another “aha” moment, you need a f*cking strategy. Therapy with me isn’t just about talking through the past, it’s about changing how your nervous system reacts so you can stop overthinking, stop self-sabotaging, and actually heal.
Therapy isn’t a comfy chat, it’s the work that changes your life.
If you’re looking for someone to just nod and validate you, I’m not your person. Therapy with me means digging into the hard stuff, getting uncomfortable, and breaking the cycles that have kept you stuck. If you’re ready to finally feel different, not just think different, let’s get to work.
If you’re still reading, something here is clicking for you. Trust that. Keep going, let’s see if I’m the therapist who can actually help you break the cycle.

Therapy with me isn’t just about talking, it’s about transformation. I combine science-backed, trauma-informed modalities with a no-BS, real-world approach that actually helps you break free from toxic cycles.
Here’s how:
Internal Family Systems (IFS) TherapyIFS helps you understand the different parts of yourself, the part that’s stuck in fear, the part that keeps overthinking, and the part that just wants to feel safe. We’ll work together to heal the parts of you that have been carrying trauma for way too long.
Trauma-Informed Care (TIC)Your trauma responses aren’t personality flaws, they’re survival strategies. My trauma-informed approach ensures that you feel safe, validated, and empowered while we unpack and heal the experiences that shaped you.
Person-Centered Therapy (PCT)I meet you where you are, without judgment. No one-size-fits-all approach, no rigid treatment plans, just therapy that adapts to what you need in the moment.
Inner Child Healing & Nervous System RegulationYou can’t logic your way out of trauma, healing happens in the body and nervous system. I help you reconnect with the younger parts of yourself that learned to survive through self-doubt, people-pleasing, and emotional shutdowns. By regulating your nervous system, we make sure healing actually sticks.

“Therapy is just talking about my feelings.” Nope. Therapy with me is about rewiring how you respond to stress, triggers, and relationships. Less talking, more real change.
“If I understand my trauma, I’ll stop repeating patterns.” Understanding is step one. Rewiring your brain and nervous system is what actually breaks the cycle.
“Healing means I’ll never struggle again.” Healing isn’t about becoming a perfect, unbothered human. It’s about learning how to navigate life with self-trust, confidence, and peace.

This isn’t about “just thinking positive” or talking in circles about your trauma. Real healing happens when you work with someone who challenges you, gets you, and helps you let go of control so you can actually be vulnerable.
That’s exactly what trauma intensives did for me, and what they can do for you.
If you’re done overanalyzing and ready to actually heal, let’s talk. Book a free consult and let’s get you unstuck.
